Travelers from Miami can now fly nonstop to Belém, Brazil, thanks to a new international route launched by GOL Linhas Aéreas. This exclusive connection between South Florida and the gateway to the Amazon began operations on June 15, offering direct service twice a week—on Thursdays and Sundays—between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Belém International Airport (BEL).

Flights are operated with GOL’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, known for its fuel efficiency and comfort, and take approximately 6 hours and 10 minutes. Departures from Belém are scheduled for 11:00 PM, arriving in Miami at 3:30 AM. Fares start at just $167 one-way, making this an accessible option for travelers seeking an off-the-beaten-path destination rich in culture, nature, and flavor.

Belém is the capital of the state of Pará, located in northern Brazil. As one of the largest and most ecologically significant states in the country, Pará is home to vast stretches of the eastern Amazon rainforest. The region plays a crucial role in global biodiversity and climate balance, offering unique access to river systems, protected reserves, and indigenous territories.

Within Belém itself, travelers encounter a vibrant mix of colonial architecture, riverside scenery, and cultural landmarks. Named one of the world’s most tempting food cities by Lonely Planet, Belém’s culinary scene is shaped by centuries of Indigenous, African, and Portuguese influences. From the bustling Ver-o-Peso Market to the scenic Estação das Docas, and the rich Amazonian flavors of dishes like tacacá—a hot, tangy soup made with jambu leaves and shrimp—and açaí, served thick and unsweetened as a savory side, the city offers an unforgettable cultural and gastronomic journey.

Beyond gastronomy, Belém is a year-round destination. In October, the city hosts the Círio de Nazaré, one of the largest religious festivals in the world, drawing millions of pilgrims. Carnival in February brings vibrant parades and music to the Amazonian streets, blending Brazil’s festive spirit with its northern identity.

This new route also gains strategic importance as Belém prepares to host the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) from November 10 to 21, 2025. The event is considered the most anticipated on Brazil’s international calendar, expected to welcome thousands of global delegates to debate and define climate policies for the coming years. In anticipation of increased demand, GOL will add a third weekly flight during the summit.

For U.S.-based travelers, the new service strengthens access to one of Brazil’s most fascinating regions—whether for ecotourism, cultural exploration, or business. And with GOL’s codeshare partnership with American Airlines, travelers can enjoy seamless connections to other cities across North America.

With this launch, the distance between Miami and the Amazon just got a little shorter—and a lot more exciting.
