There’s something about Brazil’s real-life stories that often feels more cinematic than fiction—and The King of the Internet leans fully into that energy.
Set to premiere internationally at the Miami Film Festival on April 12, the film arrives one month before its Brazilian release on May 14, positioning itself as one of the country’s latest cultural exports. The screening will also bring director Fabrício Bittar and lead actor João Guilherme to Miami—one of Brazil’s most recognizable young stars, whose massive following adds visibility to the film as it reaches international audiences.
At the center of the story is Daniel Nascimento, a teenager who didn’t just experiment with code—he turned it into power. Still underage, he managed to invade national and international systems, gaining notoriety for the scale and audacity of his cyberattacks. As his reputation grew, he was drawn into a criminal network that moved millions, stepping into a world defined by speed, access, and excess.

What follows is a rapid immersion into a lifestyle more commonly associated with celebrity than cybercrime—money, status, and visibility arriving all at once. The film explores how quickly that kind of acceleration can distort judgment, especially at such a young age, where ambition and immaturity often collide.
Before turning 17, Daniel becomes the target of a major federal investigation, in what would become one of Brazil’s first large-scale crackdowns on cybercrime. The narrative unfolds as both a coming-of-age story and a cautionary tale, balancing the thrill of digital power with the weight of real-world consequences.

Following the success of recent titles like I’m Still Here and The Secret Agent, Brazilian cinema continues to expand its presence on the global stage. The King of the Internet is part of this movement—bringing a distinctly Brazilian story into a global conversation shaped by technology, youth, and power.
Another Brazilian title featured at this year’s festival is The Blue Trail, starring Denise Weinberg and Rodrigo Santoro, further reinforcing the country’s growing visibility on the international film circuit.
