Must read

The football world will turn its gaze to the United States this summer as it hosts the FIFA Club World Cup from June 14th to July 13th, 2025. Among the 32 elite teams vying for international glory are four of Brazil’s most iconic clubs: Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, and Palmeiras. Each team arrives with its own compelling story—and Brazil’s hopes pinned on their success.

C.R. Flamengo – South America’s Reigning Power

Flamengo qualified by winning the 2022 Conmebol Copa Libertadores, making them one of the first teams to confirm their spot in the expanded tournament. Their squad blends experience and attacking verve, with stars like Arrascaeta, playmaker Gerson, Bruno Henrique and veteran keeper Rossi leading the charge. The Rubro-Negro will kick off their campaign in Philadelphia, against Esperance Sportive, from Tunes.

Fluminense F. C. – The Debutants with Flair

Having earned their ticket by capturing the 2023 Conmebol Copa Libertadores, Fluminense will make their Club World Cup debut with a team known for elegant, possession-based football. Key players include Thiago Silva, the experienced goalkeeper Fábio, midfield orchestrator PH Ganso, and dynamic Colombian midfielder Jhon Arias. Their first test will come in New York, versus Borussia Dortmund from Germany..

Botafogo F. R. – The Cinderella Champions

Botafogo became the 32nd and final team to secure their place at the FIFA Club World Cup by winning the 2024 Conmebol Copa Libertadores. Their title run culminated in a dramatic 3-1 victory over Atlético Mineiro, achieved despite being down a man for most of the match – a historic first continental crown for the club. The team has John Victor to block the goal, counts on the composure of Savarino, and the strength of Bastos, Botafogo enters with heart and momentum. They begin their campaign in Seattle, where they will face Seattle Sounders.

S.E. Palmeiras – The Benchmark of Consistency

Palmeiras qualified by winning the 2021 Conmebol Copa Libertadores. Under coach Abel Ferreira, the squad is a mix of youthful brilliance and strategic discipline. Look out for breakout star Facundo Torres, midfielder Raphael Veiga, and defensive stalwart Murilo. Palmeiras will play their opener in New York, taking on Porto from Portugal.
