Milton Nascimento performs the last tour with
nine shows in the United States.
One of the greatest stars of Brazilian music, Milton Nascimento, celebrates 60 years of career and 80 years of life with the international tour “A Última Sessão de Música,” in English “The Last Music Session,” a concert that marks his farewell from the stages. The tour, which premiered on June 11 at Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro, has already been seen in England, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. In the United States, the artist performs nine shows, starting in Orlando, on September 29, at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, then in Fort Lauderdale on October 1st at Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker. He also performs in Alexandria (4) and Boston (9), with two dates in New York City, October 6 and 11, and Los Angeles, on the 13th and 14th, ending in Berkley on the 16th.
His otherworldly falsetto, described by many as “The Voice of God”, was recorded in 43 albums, won five Grammy awards, and got the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in music by the University of Berklee in Boston. A legend in his field, Milton Nascimento held collaborations with other legends such as saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, and jazz singer Sarah Vaughan. He is known as one of the most influential artists in the world, “one of the greatest musicians alive,” according to the New York Times. Among his most famous songs, “Ponta de Areia”, has inspired several versions, including recordings by Earth, Wind & Fire and Esperanza Spalding.
Yet even the voice of God must rest – but not before blessing the fans with a final act of classics such as “Ponta de Areia”, “Encontros e Despedidas”, “Travessia”, “Cio da Terra,” and “Nos Bailes da Vida.” “It would be impossible to make this farewell without putting songs from all stages of my career in the repertoire,” said Milton, retiring from the stages but not from music. “Music is my journey. It’s the most beautiful thing that exists in my soul.”
“The Last Music Session” crowns a nostalgic phase for Milton Nascimento, who, in 2019, went on an international tour with the show “Clube da Esquina,” a revival of the 1972 album co-authored by his friend Lô Borges. “Clube turns up on all the Essential Records lists. It’s celebrated in books and academic papers for its diverse stylistic explorations and ornate arrangements. Still, even 50 years on, this album’s impact remains tricky to pin down — because of its sweep and scale, and because it influenced seemingly everyone making music in Brazil at the time,” wrote music journalist Tom Moon, author of the New York Times bestseller ‘1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die.’
From the United States, Milton Nascimento returns to Brazil, where he performs three more concerts in São Paulo before the big farewell from the stages, scheduled to take place on November 13th, at the Mineirão Stadium, in Belo Horizonte. The tour “The Last Music Session” ends with around 30 concerts in Brazil and abroad. Despite the departure, “The Voice of God” will remain alive!
