Brazilian Percussionist Paulinho da Costa to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

Must read

Brazilian music takes center stage in Hollywood as legendary percussionist Paulinho da Costa is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2026. He will become the first living Brazilian to be honored with this recognition, celebrating a career that has left an indelible mark on global pop culture.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Paulinho da Costa began playing percussion as a child in the samba school Portela. In 1973, he moved to Los Angeles, where his extraordinary talent quickly earned him a place among the most sought-after musicians in the industry.

With more than 1,500 recording credits, the Brazilian percussionist has collaborated with iconic artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, Diana Krall, and Celine Dion. His unmistakable rhythms can be heard on legendary albums like Thriller and True Blue, as well as in hit soundtracks like Dirty Dancing, Purple Rain, Saturday Night Fever, Star Wars, and Jurassic Park.

Recognized by Down Beat magazine as “one of the most talented percussionists of our time,” Paulinho plays over 200 instruments and has helped shape the sound of modern music across pop, jazz, R&B, and film.

Paulinho da Costa joins Carmen Miranda as one of only two Brazilians to ever receive a star — and stands alone as the only Brazilian-born and living artist to be honored to date.

This milestone not only highlights Paulinho’s exceptional contributions to the entertainment world but also honors the global impact of Brazilian music and culture.

Stay tuned for the upcoming Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles, where Brazil will proudly shine on one of the world’s most famous boulevards.
