The “Becos de Tiradentes Walking Tour” in the charming colonial town of Tiradentes, in Minas Gerais, was recently awarded with Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best 2023. The annual award made by the travel platform TripAdvisor honors destinations, hotels, restaurants, and other experiences based on reviews and opinions collected from travelers around the world over a 12-month period.

This tour was chosen as one of the 25 best cultural and historical excursions in the world, and it earned 1st place in the “Best overall experiences” category in Brazil and 4th place in South America.

Nestled at the foot of the Serra de São José, it’s a place where time has stood still. In 1830, when the last gold mine closed, people moved away and the town was left untouched. In 1938, a heritage designation prevented any further development from occurring, leaving the town seemingly frozen in time.

Despite its small size and remote location, Tiradentes boasts a vibrant tourism infrastructure. With only a few dozen streets, you can easily explore the town in a day. But why rush? Take your time to admire the sights, browse the antique and jewelry stores, savor the delicious cuisine, or simply wander around.

During peak season and on weekends, the town is bustling with activity; if you’re looking for a more tranquil experience, plan your visit during weekdays.
