Brazil to Play USA in Women’s Soccer Games in California

Must read

The Brazilian women’s national team will play two highly anticipated friendlies against the United States this April as part of their preparation for the 2025 Copa América Femenina (CONMEBOL), scheduled to take place from July 12 to August 2 in Ecuador.

The matches mark a rematch of the Paris 2024 Olympic final, where Team USA defeated Brazil 1-0 to claim the gold medal, leaving the Seleção with a silver that still stings. Both games will be played in California: the first on Saturday, April 5, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles (6:00 p.m. local time), and the second on Tuesday, April 8, at PayPal Park in San José (11:30 p.m. local time).

Despite the importance of these friendlies, Brazil will once again be without star midfielder Marta, who has not been called up by head coach Arthur Elias. The coach announced a 23-player squad focused on building toward the Copa América, a crucial tournament in Brazil’s Olympic journey.

The top two teams at the Copa América will secure direct qualification to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, while the third to fifth place finishers will earn spots at the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Brazil, the current Copa América champion, sees this tournament as a pivotal part of its Olympic cycle.

FIFA Rankings and Recent Form

The United States currently tops the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, while Brazil has dropped to eighth place after opting to use the most recent international break for training instead of competition. These April matchups offer a valuable test for the Seleção against the world’s best.
