Brazil has reached a historic milestone, welcoming a record-breaking number of international tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Over 6.62 million travelers chose Brazil as their destination for leisure or business trips in the past year.
This achievement aligns with the goals outlined in the National Tourism Plan (PNT), which aims to attract 8.1 million international visitors annually within the next three years.
“We have been investing heavily in improving Brazil’s tourism infrastructure, with projects spanning from north to south. Additionally, we are supporting the sector through initiatives like the Fungetur [General Tourism Fund], which provides essential resources to strengthen the entire tourism supply chain, making it more prepared to welcome visitors. Of course, we are also showcasing the best of Brazil at major international events,” said Tourism Minister Celso Sabino, in a statement released by the ministry.
This accomplishment surpasses previous high points for Brazilian tourism, including 2014, when the country hosted the FIFA World Cup, and 2016, the year of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Together, these two landmark events brought 12.9 million international arrivals to Brazil.
To further enhance its appeal to global travelers, the federal government has been working on multiple fronts. In December 2023, Brazil inaugurated the first World Tourism Organization (WTO) office in the Americas and the Caribbean, located in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil has also embraced regional cooperation with the launch of the “Visit South America: One Place, Many Worlds” campaign, a collaborative effort with Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Chile. This initiative aims to promote and position these countries internationally, highlighting their natural attractions, culinary offerings, and renowned hospitality.
With its vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and growing commitment to sustainable tourism, Brazil is emerging as one of the most sought-after destinations for travelers worldwide. From the untouched wonders of the Amazon to the vibrant energy of its cities and the charm of its world-famous beaches, Brazil invites travelers to immerse themselves in a destination rich in diversity, flavor, and unforgettable moments.
