Wildlife such as jaguars and birds shined down in bright colors in the NYC sky on Friday (15). Global web movement Avaaz sponsored and organized the show with a thousand drones lighting the sky and a message to protect Brazil’s Amazon rainforest.

“This is so critical as Brazil’s president is just about to speak on the world’s largest political stage here. We need to be heard all together”, wrote Avaaz on social media. Indigenous representatives also participated in the event and performed with Brazilian DJ Alok.

The goal is to draw attention to the cause days before President Lula’s speech at the UN. As is tradition, the Brazilian president will make the opening statement of the general assembly, next Tuesday (19).
