It is no secret that Brazil is one of the world’s top users of social media, and WhatsApp is the favorite messaging app among Brazilians, boasting an impressive 169 million active users by the end of 2023. The Brazilian love for sending voice messages and stickers is well-known, and according to Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Brazil sends four times more voice messages than any other country. Additionally, Brazilians hold the record for sending stickers and emojis.
“People in Brazil send more stickers, participate more in polls, and send four times more voice messages on WhatsApp than in any other country,” the entrepreneur revealed during Meta Conversations, a global event held by the brand on June 6 in São Paulo. Although Zuckerberg was not physically present at the event, he recorded a video where he spoke about the Brazilian affinity for WhatsApp.
“A country that has truly embraced the power of messaging to connect, express themselves, and conduct business. You have made ‘zap zap’ your own, and you are among the most active users of the app in the world,” emphasized the businessman.
In the video, Zuckerberg also discussed the implementation of an integrated artificial intelligence assistant for WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. According to the Meta CEO, this technology is expected to arrive in Brazil in July, with features such as interacting with users, creating images and texts, and answering questions.
The service will be available in Brazilian Portuguese and will feature a virtual assistant that interacts with users of Meta’s social networks. Meta’s goal is to develop a proprietary AI that competes with other established market players like ChatGPT, OpenAI, and Microsoft’s CoPilot. According to Zuckerberg, the aim is for Meta to have “the best artificial intelligence service in the world.”
